An herpetologist (snake expert) brought several snakes to show a zoo in Chapel Hill. A girl went up to him after the class to ask more about the snakes. She wanted to know if he had ever been bitten by a poisonous snake. He said "Yep, several times. Most recently a rattler bit me right here", and he showed the scar on his arm where the snake had sunk it's fangs.
She looked at the man in awe and asked, "And you lived!?" He looked at her, surprised, then grinned and said "You're a UNC* student, aren't you?"
"I had the toughest time of my life. First, I got angina pectoris and then arteriosclerosis. Just as I was recovering fromthese, I got tuberculosis, double pneumonia and phthisis. Then they gave me hypodermics. Appendicitis was followed by tonsillectomy. These gaveway to aphasia and hypertrophic cirrhosis. I completely lost my memory for a while. I know I had diabetes and acute ingestion, besides gastritis, rheumatism, lumbago and neuritis. I don't know how I pulled through it.... It was the hardest spelling test I've ever had."
Islam sees itself in a state of war with Western civilization, which was shaped by the Judeo-Christian tradition.
The incompatibility of this worldview led Harvard professor Samuel Huntington, in his 1990s book The Clash of Civilizations, to predict that the clash between Islam and the West would be the great struggle of the twenty-first century. He is a prophet.
The question is, as with all prophets: Will we listen? Will we acknowledge that we are in the midst of a life-and-death struggle between two hostile worldviews? To listen to America’s politicians say we have to bring the troops home, three years is long enough to fight, is tragically comical.
