How about some good news on how many American Arabs are helping the FBI nab terrorists coming into their midst.....Hal

COUNTER-TERRORISM: Informants in American Service

June 4, 2006: A recent terrorist trial, and conviction, of an Islamic terrorists in New York City brought out the extent to which police have infiltrated Moslem communities in order to uncover terrorist plots. While most of this counter-terrorist activity within Moslem communities is kept secret, enough information has leaked out to make it clear that it's no accident that the United States has not suffered another terrorist attack since September 11, 2001.

There is an extensive informant network within Moslem communities all over the United States. The FBI was pleasantly surprised right after September 11, 2001, by the number of calls they got from American Moslems, reporting suspicious events in their communities, or volunteering to keep an eye on things. It turned out that there was a substantial number of American Moslems, most of them recent immigrants (legal and illegal) that were pro al Qaeda. These attitudes had been causing distress among American Moslems since the 1990s. There had been violence, and even some murders, as the Islamic radicals tried to take control of Mosques, and other Moslem immigrant organizations. While Arabs have been migrating to the United States for over a century, until the 1960s, most of those migrants were Arab Christians, or Jews. Once Israel was founded, the Middle Eastern Jews generally went to Israel, while Arab Christians continued to head for America. Then came the large waves of Arab Moslems. The established Arab-Americans did not have close ties with the growing number of Arab Moslem migrants. There were some pan-Arab organizations, but the Arab Moslems tended to keep to themselves. This was no surprise to the Arab-American Christians, as their ancestors had come to American to escape persecution by Moslems back home. Old animosities die hard.

But many of the Moslem Arab-Americans took to the idea of "becoming Americans," without leaving behind all their cultural baggage from the old country. It was these first and second generation Arab-Americans, as well as Moslem migrants from other parts of the world, that provided the FBI with information about what was going on inside the hundreds of Moslem communities. While there have been some arrests, and prosecutions of American Moslems for terrorist activity, many more pro-terrorist groups simply dissolved when it became known, via some official visits, or gossip, that the feds knew what was going on in the community. The prosecutions that did take place around the country, like the recent one in New York City, almost always resulted in convictions and long sentences. Suddenly, it was no longer a game to sit around and pretend you were going to be a "holy warrior" and bring death and destruction to the Great Satan (the U.S.). Few of the informants within the communities were revealed, and those that tried to ferret them out, or persecute suspected informants, found themselves the subject of police investigation and hostility from the Moslem community. This had a strong deterrent effect on Islamic militants trying to create "liberated zones" in the United States. This was a major difference with the situation in Europe, where many Moslem communities are very pro-terrorist.

But there are still many within the Moslem community who want to carry out terrorist attacks. These people have learned to be careful what they say, and who they talk to. They have become learned in how the American judicial system works, and don't give the FBI an excuse to make arrests, or launch aggressive investigations. For example, police in some parts of the country believe that a few of the "self-defense" groups formed in Mosques have motives beyond protecting the Mosque from anti-Moslem terrorists.

Another good source of intelligence on America based terrorists has been the thousands of terrorist suspects arrested overseas. Many of these men have become cooperative. For example, of the seven different detention centers at Guantanamo Bay, one of them is set aside for "cooperatives." These men get much better treatment, and protection from the hard core terrorists who still comprise most of the other inmates. Most cooperatives aren't sure if they can go home now, because word of their cooperation could get them killed once they are outside Guantanamo Bay. But other resettlement options can be offered, depending on how cooperative the cooperatives can be. The result is often names of pro-terrorist people who have immigrated to the United States, or those in various parts of the world who know something about who is who (terrorist wise) in the United States.

As successful as the informant program has been, it only has to fail once to get a lot of Americans killed, and give al Qaeda a tremendous morale boost. The terrorists know that, so they keep trying.

Remember the Titans:
An Unequivocal Moral Core

In movie theaters around the country, audiences
leaving after Remember the Titans are reaching for
more than their car keys. They're reaching for tissues.

They're crying but they're also cheering, and even
giving the film standing ovations. As Brian Callaghan
of General Cinema told USA Today, theater manages are
comparing the film's impact to that of Rocky twenty-
five years ago. As he put it, "it's a movie that has
struck a chord with just about everyone who sees it."

That's because, unlike so many contemporary films,
Remember the Titans has an uncompromising moral core.

Remember the Titans is based on a true story. In
1971, the city of Alexandria, Virginia, just across
the Potomac from Washington, was under a court order
to integrate its schools. This included merging its
two high schools and their football teams.

As a result, the popular head coach of T.C. Williams
High School, Bill Yoast, who is white, was replaced
by a black newcomer, Herman Boone. To put it mildly,
Boone faced a daunting task. If he lost a game, he'd
be in deep trouble.

So, to keep his job, Boone had to do two things.
First, he had to turn two teams into one. In the
film's pivotal sequence, Boone convinces Yoast to
remain as his assistant. Their cooperation became a
symbol for the way black and white players could come together.

But getting players to look beyond race and respect
each other wasn't enough. Boone had to instill a
sense of discipline in his players. They had to learn
the value of hard work and setting aside their
personal need for gratification.

Well, he succeeded. The T.C. Williams Titans won the
Virginia state championship. And the story of how
they did it is so compelling that, even knowing how
it turns out, audiences still cheer during scenes of
the championship game.

Reviewers have called the film a "feel-good" movie.
But that misses the point. A large part of the
movie's appeal lies in what you and I might call its
"moral universe" -- the things that it assumes are
good and true.

For instance, our postmodern culture, which
segregates people by cultural identities, tells us
that it is next to impossible for people of different
racial and ethnic backgrounds to communicate with one
another, much less work together for a common
purpose. This film says, "Not so!"

It's also a welcome respite from the egocentric mess
that sports have become. If you watch NFL games,
you'll see that every pass reception or tackle
becomes the occasion for a display that yells, "Look
at me!" The fact that this is what the players are
paid to do goes unnoticed. And, if a player actually
scores a touchdown, he often carries on as if he were
a conquering hero.

Remember the Titans reminds us that individual glory
and gratification can (and should) take a back seat
to doing your best for the sake of the team. Most
people want to believe this is still true. And that's
why they cheer.

The film is rated PG-13 for some profanity. But, if
you can get yourself past that, you will see a great
lesson -- that hard work and sacrifice do pay off.
And the tears viewers shed remind us that our
neighbors don't mind being reminded of that fact.
There is still hunger for virtue in American life.

Dear Howdy, I think your magazine is a scream!

Dear Howdy, I have been receiving your "paper" for a while under for a while and love it! I was recently married
and so my email address changed to reflect my new name. Keep up the
great work! Suzanne

Dear Howdy, Funny!!!!!!!!!! The Shawdow

Dear Howdy, I really enjoy your newletter. I would like to bring to your attention that
Tennessee was listed on TV (sorry I don't remember which network) as one of
the states that is too close to call in the presidental election. Since Al
Gore is "suppose" to be from Tennessee you would think the fact that TN is
not behind him should be a clear sign to the rest of the nation. As George
W. Bush said at a rally on Tuesday here in Knoxville, Al Gore will carry his
home district - Washington DC, but not the state of Tennessee! Sandy

Dear Howdy, You are GREAT! I love your sense of humor, your obvious
bias towards REPUBLICANS (me, too!) and your thought provoking
commentaries. Are you a real person?????? Jo

Dear Jo, Didn't know the bias showed!!! My Mother thinks I'm real... Howdy

*An elephant's trunk is as important to it as our hands are to us.
With its trunk, an elephant can pick up a pea or throw a huge, heavy
log. A full-grown elephant's trunk is about seven feet long (2
meters) and weighs about 300 pounds (140 kilograms). This amazing
organ contains more than 100,000 muscles and no bones at all.

The trunk is an extension of the elephant's nose and upper lip. At
its tip, there are two delicate, fleshy buds that act much like our
fingers. The animal uses it for drinking (by sucking in water and
spraying it into its mouth), for washing (by spraying its body), for
communicating (by trumpeting through it), for smelling, for
breathing, and in many other ways. It can hold more than a gallon of
water. Remember who the elephant's Creator is? See Genesis 1 for details.

There are two species of elephants alive today:

German scientists dug 50 meters down and discovered small
pieces of copper. After studying these pieces for a long
time, Germany announced that the ancient Germans 25,000
years ago had a nation-wide telephone net.

Naturally, the Russian government was not that easily
impressed. They ordered their own scientists to dig even
deeper. 100 meters down they found small pieces of glass
and they soon announced that the ancient Russians 35,000
years ago already had a nation-wide fiber net.

American scientists were outraged by this. They dug 200
meters down & found absolutely nothing. They happily
concluded that the ancient Americans 55,000 years ago
had cellular telephones.

*Centuries ago, English was mostly spoken by a few million people in
the British Isles, and there were a few local dialects such as Irish
English. But in the last century, the language has exploded across
the world and diversified, picking up many words and pronunciation
styles from local tongues.

Measured by the number of people for whom English is their first
language, 72% speak American English and 16% use British English.
6% use Canadian English, 5% use Australian English and 1% use New
Zealand English. There are also dozens of minor dialects, including
Caribbean, South African, (Asian) Indian, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh.

Even within American English there are significant regional
differences. Boston English is different from the language spoken in
Atlanta, and Chicago English is different from both of them.

A woman meant to call a record store but dialed the wrong
number and got a private home instead.

"Do you have 'Eyes of Blue' and 'A Love Supreme'?" she asked.

"Well, no," answered the puzzled homeowner. But I have got
a wife and eight children."

"Is that a record?" she inquired.

"I don't think so," replied the man, "but it's as close as I want to get."

The doctor just shakes his head and asks, "You're a

The doctor replies, "Because your finger is broken."

Verse of the Day

* * * Four Important Things To KNOW: #1) For ALL (Americans, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhist, Asians, Presbyterians, Europeans, Baptist, Brazilians, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc.) have sinned & fall short of the glory of God. #2) For the wages of above (see #1) are DEATH (Hell, eternal separation from God, & damnation) but the Gift (free & at no charge to you) of God (Creator, Jehovah, & Trinity) is Eternal Life (Heaven) through (in union with) Jesus Christ (God, Lord, 2nd Person of The Trinity, Messiah, Prince of Peace & Savior of the World). #3) For God so greatly loved & dearly prized the world (Americans, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhist, Asians, Presbyterians, Europeans, Baptist, Brazilians, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc.) that He even gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, that whosoever (anyone, anywhere, anytime - while still living) believes (trust in, relies on, clings to, depends completely on) Him shall have eternal (everlasting) life (heaven). #4) Jesus said: "I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, & THE LIFE. No one (male/female - American, Muslim, Jew, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist, Asian, Presbyterian, European, Baptist, Brazilian, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc. ) comes (arrives) to the Father (with GOD in Heaven) EXCEPT BY (through) ME (no other name). *** This wonderful loving GOD gives you the choice - - - (Rev. 3:20) {Please note that church membership, baptism, doing good things, etc. are not requirements for becoming a Christian - however they are great afterwards!!!} *** Jesus said, "Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction (Hell, damnation, eternal punishment), and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life (Heaven, eternal happiness, forever with God), and only a few find it.

But these are written so that you may

Son of God, and that by believing in
Him you will have life. Jn 20:31

Seek the Lord while He may be found;
call on Him while He is near. Let the
wicked forsake his way and the evil
man his thoughts. Let him turn to the
Lord, and He will have mercy on him,
and to our God, for He will freely
pardon. "For My thoughts are not
your thoughts, neither are your ways
My ways," declares the Lord. "As the
heavens are higher than the earth, so
are My ways higher than your ways
and My thoughts than your thoughts.
As the rain and the snow come down
from heaven, and do not return to it
without watering the earth and making
it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed
for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is My word that goes out from My
mouth: It will not return to Me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire and
achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
You will go out in joy and be led forth
in peace; the mountains and hills will
burst into song before you, and all the
trees of the field will clap their hands.
Instead of the thornbush will grow the
pine tree, and instead of briers the myrtle
will grow. This will be for the Lord's
renown, for an everlasting sign, which
will not be destroyed." Is 55

O Lord, you have searched me and you
know me. You know when I sit and when
I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying
down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue you know
it completely, O Lord. You hem me in -
behind and before; you have laid your
hand upon me. Such knowledge is too
wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where
can I flee from your presence? If I go up
to the heavens, you are there; if I make
my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide
me and the light become night around
me," even the darkness will not be dark
to you; the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you. For you
created my inmost being; you knit me
together in my mother's womb. I praise
you because I am fearfully and wonderfully
made; your works are wonderful, I know
that full well. My frame was not hidden
from you when I was made in the secret
place. When I was woven together in the
depths of the earth, your eyes saw my
unformed body. All the days ordained
for me were written in your book before
one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts,
O God! How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them, they would
outnumber the grains of sand. When
I awake, I am still with you. Search me,
O God, and know my heart; test me
and know my anxious thoughts. See
if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
Ps 139

But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up,
that I may show My power in you, and that My
Name may be declared in all the earth. Ex 9:16

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small:
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
