A passenger train is creeping along, slowly. Finally it creaks to a halt. A passenger sees the conductor walking by outside. "What's going on?" she yells out her window. "Cow on the track!" replies the conductor. Ten minutes later, the train resumes its slow pace. Within five minutes, however, it stops once again. The same woman sees the conductor walk by again. She leans out the window and yells, "What happened? Did we catch up with that cow again?"

Currency

1895: First Movie Theater Opened
In a dim backroom of the Grand Cafe in Paris, Louis and August Lumiere projected cinematographic films on a screen. The 50-second films included images of trains arriving, factory workers heading home, and babies being fed. The films were made using the first mass-produced motion picture camera: the Lumiere Cinematographe, designed by the Lumiere brothers. The first showing of moving-picture films to a paying audience, it is marked as the start of the cinema industry. But the people involved didn't grasp the significance. Auguste Lumiere said, "Our invention can be exploited for a certain time as a scientific curiosity, but apart from that, it has no commercial future whatsoever."

Trust in yourself and you are doomed to disappointment; trust in money and you may have it taken from you; but trust in God, and you are never to be confounded in time or eternity. - D.L. Moody

Dear Marty,
I have been unable to sleep since I broke off your engagement to my daughter. Will you forgive and forget?
I was much too sensitive about your Mohawk, tattoo and pierced nose. I now realize motorcycles aren't really that dangerous, and I really should not have reacted that way to the fact that you have never held a job.
I am also very sure that some other very nice people live under the bridge in the park, too. Sure my daughter is only 18 and wants to marry you instead of going to Harvard on full scholarship. After all, you can't learn everything about life from books.
I sometimes forget how backward I can be. I was wrong. I was a fool. I have now come to my senses and you have my full blessing to marry my daughter.
