Fingerprint
The earliest account of fingerprint use to establish identity was during the 7th century. According to Soleiman, an Arabic merchant, a debtor's fingerprints were affixed to a bill, which would then be given to the lender. This bill was legally recognized as proof of the validity of the debt.

Algor Mortis (Body Temperature)
After death, body temperature declines progressively until it reaches the temperature of its surroundings. This process generally takes about 8 to 12 hours on the skin, but the centre of the body takes aboue three times as long to cool.

Insects
Various insects: They like to lay their eggs on very fresh corpses. The eggs hatch out within 8-14 hours. After another 8-14 hours it sheds its skin and emerges as a bigger larva. This process is repeated several times, taking 10-12 days in total. People who know about insects can therefore look at the larva, see which stage it is at, and work out time of death.
